For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God Ephesians 2:8 NET
Many times we miss the meaning or definition of a gift. The Oxford dictionary defines a gift as “a thing given willingly to someone without payment”. That means there is no form of payment attached to a gift. Sometimes, gifts are give to someone in a highly placed position, but the underlying motive is to seek for favours from that person. But a gift given from someone greater to a subordinate is different.
God, the creator of the universe, gave a gift to His creation. You can be sure that no payment is attached to it. All you do to a gift is, receive it, not pay for it. But what believers are doing is trying to earn, beg, plead, ask or qualify for the gift. The grace of God is a gift that has appeared to all men. When the delivery man appears at your doorstep with a gift that has your name on it, you don’t go inside to get money to pay for it, you receive it.
A preacher once told his members to come forward and sow a seed to receive unusual grace for unusual miracles. They were asked to pay for something that God Himself gave to us freely. Grace has not only appeared to those reading this devotional, but even to those planning to kill people or bomb some areas. The only difference is, they have refused to accept this grace that has appeared. If you’ve been wondering who grace is for a long while, Jesus is Grace. And the bible states that as many as have accepted and received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God. Grace is not an inactive gift, but an active one. The moment you receive grace in your life, He comes with power (dunamis) to change every situation in your life. *To be continued*
Prayer: Lord thank you for your free gift of grace.
